Le Diplomate Bakery Cafe in Irvine’s University Town Center caters to those seeking a casual spot to grab a satisfying sandwich or a cozy breakfast. This place walks the line between a bakery and a sandwich shop, serving up a broad selection of hearty options like the Chicken Broccoli Mushroom or the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwiches, alongside vegetarian-friendly choices featuring fresh cheeses and vibrant veggies. The menu is thoughtfully diverse, making it a practical stop for a quick lunch or a laid-back breakfast.

Visitors can expect a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating—a definite plus during Southern California’s sunnier months. It’s the kind of cafe where locals might pause between errands or study sessions to enjoy a filling sandwich and a well-crafted coffee. The bread gets praise for its quality, providing a solid foundation for the various fillings and sauces, including a notable garlic sauce that adds a bit of zing.

The interior is welcoming rather than flashy, with helpful staff who can guide you through the menu, though it’s worth noting they don’t accept American Express. Service is generally efficient, so stop by if you’re on the go but still want something more substantial than the typical grab-and-run. The coffee is solid but runs on the milder side, so true lovers of strong brews might find it less intense than expected.

Le Diplomate Bakery Cafe works well for individuals seeking a straightforward, wholesome meal in a no-fuss environment. Whether you’re looking for a mid-morning pick-me-up, a satisfying lunch break, or a comfortable spot to linger with a sandwich and a smoothie, this cafe fits the bill. Given its location, it naturally attracts a mix of students, professionals, and residents in the area who value good seating options and straightforward, quality sandwiches without the pretense.

Simple tasty sandwich and nice outdoor seating. The 9" is about $10. Italian soda was $3.50. My only complaint is that their "Vietnamese coffee" is just a regular coffee and not that strong. Good bread.

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly baked pastries and the warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to offer recommendations. I tried their croissants and pain au chocolat—both were buttery, flaky perfection. The coffee was rich and smooth, the perfect companion to their artisan baked goods. You can tell everything is made with care and high-quality ingredients. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a relaxing brunch, Le Diplomate delivers a fantastic experience every time. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates authentic French baking and cozy café vibes!

I got the chicken broccoli mushrooms sandwich! The sandwich is pretty good, but not spectacular. Definitely something I would recommend if you’re looking for something to fill you up and on the go. Service was great, but they do not take American Express.

Great sandwiches and I can’t recommend the garlic sauce enough. Located in the heart of University Town Center with plenty of seating

This is a pretty solid sandwich shop with a lot of different options including vegetarian ones. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. The service is fast. What else can you expect from a sandwich shop? It’s located in a nice area and there’s plenty of seating outside.

I got the chicken mushroom sandwich, it is filled with mayo and cheese. Its pretty filling due to that combination, but I'm curious to try the other sandwiches this place offers.
